Tashkent Park

Tashkent Park is a tribute to the ongoing friendship between Seattle and Tashkent. The park, located in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood, was established by the City of Seattle in July 1974 during a visit by Tashkent Mayor Vahid Kazimov. In 1988, the Semurg (“Bird of Happiness”) statue, by the Uzbek artist Yaakov Shapiro, was installed in the park.
The picture above shows the STSCA Board, long-time STSCA volunteers, and city officials—including former Mayor Charles Royer and former City Council President Jan Drago—gathered in front of the statue on January 22, 2023 to honor the 50-year birthdate of the Seattle-Tashkent affiliation.
Seattle Peace Park

The Seattle Peace Park, also known as Babur Park, was established in 1988 by a group of almost 200 volunteers from Seattle who worked tirelessly over the summer to construct it. Seattle schoolchildren designed tiles with peace-related themes that were sent to Tashkent and incorporated into the park’s design.
In 2022, the park was renovated by the City of Tashkent. The picture above shows the 50th-anniversary delegation from Seattle in front of a new section of the park. The picture below shows the Earth Mound sculpture in the park, which was created with stones from each of the 50 US states.
