Events

Every year, STSCA hosts a festive Navruz (Central Asian New Year) celebration, a summer picnic, and an Annual Meeting. These events are well-attended and enjoyed by young and old alike! We also host delegations from Uzbekistan and participate in local events to raise awareness of Uzbek culture. Below are photos from some of our recent events; more are available on our Facebook page.

Other STSCA Events

STSCA participates in other local events, including the Seattle Seafair Parade and the International Children’s Friendship Festival.

The first STSCA Navruz celebration was held in 1998. It was a small celebration with only the Board members in attendance. In 2005, four STSCA Board members volunteered to make the celebration into a bigger public event of 250 people in Magnuson Park. Since then, STSCA’s Navruz celebration has grown and is celebrated every year with around 500 people, mainly from the local Uzbek and Central Asian communities. Attendees enjoy colorful, lively dance and music performances, a raffle for great prizes, a children’s activity area, and a full-course Uzbek meal, including plov (rice pilaf with lamb) cooked on-site in a kazan (large gas stove) and served with delicious samsas (similar to samosas). Below are pictures from STSCA’s 2023 Navruz celebration, which celebrated our 50th anniversary.
